When Conflict Creates Countries: China's Civil War

In this lesson, students will learn about China’s civil war from 1945-1949. Students will participate in a discussion on why people rebel against their government. Then, students will analyze an excerpt about China's peasants prior to the conflict. Next, students will examine the conflict between the Chinese Communist Party and the Kuomintang and analyze the  outcome of the war. Students will write a response about the outcome of the civil war in China and present their writing.

Students will create a Claim-Evidence-Reasoning (CER) to answer the question, why did communists win the civil war?
