In this lesson, students will evaluate and argue the benefits and drawbacks of the use of different types of radiation for technological advances. By the end of this lesson, students will be able to evaluate published works’ validity on technology associated with human health.

  1. Engage: Students create a claim and argue opposing viewpoints.
  2. Explore: Students read an article on gamma rays and create a superhero based on the advantages and disadvantages of a particular ray.
  3. Explain: Students read an article about the electromagnetic spectrum and identify key components of electromagnetic radiation (EMR).
  4. Extend: Students explore the job of a Director of Medical Imaging in relation to electromagnetic radiation.
  5. Evaluate: Students assess their level of understanding and determine the validity of published work on electromagnetic radiation in association with human health.

 

These modules are set so that students must complete the previous module before they can view the next. However, if you don’t want learners to see an activity before completing the previous one in the module, simply assign an “available from” date to that assignment to lock learners out until it is ready to be viewed.The virtual environment provides students the ability to work ahead or the flexibility to catch up on activities and assignments without penalty. Although some students see this as a benefit, others perceive it as an increase in workload and struggle to keep up with course expectations” (Beese, 2014).
