GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a 7-year program sponsored by the United States Department of Education. The GEAR UP project follows two student cohorts throughout their middle school and high school careers and helps support each student as they transition into higher education and a career.
The GEAR UP projects are designed to enhance students’ academic success and college and career readiness. GEAR UP also provides services to educators to impact learning and build sustainable supports to impact future classes. GEAR UP for LIFE seeks to achieve the following four goals:
GEAR UP for LIFE is housed at the University of Oklahoma’s K20 Center for Educational and Community Renewal, a statewide research and development center that promotes innovative learning through school-university-community collaboration. The K20 Center uses a structured and research-based multi-tiered approach to accomplish its vision and mission goals. The IDEALS framework targets and defines six distinct areas of student achievement that represent K20’s core values.
