How People Learn book cover

Welcome to Module 0 of the GEAR UP for LIFE's Authenticity and Discourse for Engagement using Pedagogy and Technology (ADEPT) program. This professional learning experience is designed to help you develop knowledge and skills related to the Authenticity Framework.

Expectations and Outcomes

By the end of the summer session, we will have explored the Authenticity Framework and How People Learn foundations. The Authenticity Framework is a conceptual framework that promotes a meaningful, student-centered learning environment and encourages higher-order thinking. We will also explore excerpts from How People Learn: Brain, Mind, Experience, and School from the National Research Council. With the help of this course and your relationship with your Instructional Coaches, you will be prepared to implement components of authenticity in your classroom throughout the school year.

How People Learn Objectives

  1. Acclimate yourself with the technology used in the course.
  2. Engage in the experiences of how people learn.
  3. Identify key principles and practices of how people learn, including memory and learning, transfer of learning, cues and integration, culture and context.
  4. Reflect on research related to how people learn and how it supports the Authenticity Framework.
