CHAMPS is a visual classroom management strategy that helps set expectations each day.

Summary
CHAMPs is an acronym that helps students understand classroom expectations for the day. The letters are displayed on the wall with an associated number that lets students know what is expected from them and what to expect from the teacher for the lesson that day.
Procedure
Go over what CHAMPs means with the class at the beginning of the year: C=Conversation; H=Help; A=Activity; M=Movement; P=Participation; S is for Success!
Print the letters C, H, A, M, and P and place them on the wall or create a poster with the letters typed vertically.
Next to each letter add a prompt that explains the expectation you have for the student during a task.
For C (Conversation), use voice levels 0-3; 0=No Talking and 3=Strong Speaker Voice
For H (Help), add a prompt that guides students how to ask for help (raise hand, ask neighbor).
For A (Activity), list the name of the activity (independent work, whole class).
For M (Movement), add a prompt that explains what students are allowed to do during the activity (sharpen pencil, use restroom).
For P (Participation), add a prompt showing students how to participate (work with partner, read silently).
S (Success!) can be added to a chart or left off.
CHAMPS will change for each activity you do with your students. Always go over your CHAMPS Chart before an activity to share your expectations.
