Advanced Search Filters-Strategies

In this video, we'll walk you through how the advanced filters work. You can find filters for any resource type but these instructions will use strategies as an example.

  • We'll start on the search page for LEARN, and we'll select the tab "Instructional Strategies."
  • If you know the strategy or topic you're searching for, you can enter it in the search bar. Keep in mind that when you stop typing, the search will automatically execute. So if you see the results pop early, just hop back to the search bar and finish typing.
  • If you don't exactly know what strategy you want, you can use LEARN's filters to find a strategy that fits your needs. First, select the filters button near the top-right of the page. We can filter by group size, time to complete, grade level, suggested placement in a 5E lesson, and intention or purpose.
  • Select one of the available filter fields such as “Group Size,” “Time to Complete,” “Grade Level,” "Placement in Lesson," or “Intention or Purpose.”
  • Click in the blank area to see a drop-down list and select each provided filter that applies to what you are looking for.

Each time you add criteria the selection of strategies on the screen will update. Selecting the flip icon in the bottom-right of a strategy preview will flip the card over and show me the metadata tags for that strategy. Clicking any of these metadata tags can add more filters to your search and narrow results.

Clicking on the icon in the bottom-middle of the card labeled "View Document" takes you to the strategy card page. You can select the card to flip it over. This leads to a summary of the strategy, and a step-by-step procedure in how to lead the activity. Each strategy also has sections that describe where it would easily slot into a lesson and what it's normally used for. The related resources section connects you to lessons the strategy has been used in.

Now you've got a handle on searching and filtering LEARN Strategies.
