30 Second Spotlight
Summary
The 30-Second Spotlight strategy is designed to help students practice creating and delivering concise presentations. Each student creates one slide and has exactly 30 seconds to present on either a class content topic or a topic they are passionate about. This strategy can be used to evaluate student learning, extend content knowledge, or serve as a "get to know you" activity.
Procedure
Have each student create a single slide on a class content topic or a topic they are passionate about.
Remind students that they will have only 30 seconds to present their slide.
Randomly determine the order in which students will present. This can be done by drawing names from a hat or using a random name generator.
Start the timer as soon as each student begins their presentation. It’s helpful to make the timer visible, so students can manage their time effectively.
After each presentation, offer brief, positive feedback focusing on strengths and potential areas for improvement.
Optional: Recognize standout presentations in categories like "Most Engaging," "Most Informative," “Most Creative,” etc.
