Summary
This tool helps students relate to Shakespeare’s writings, a common challenge in any unit on the historic playwright, using interactive features like performance videos of major scenes, audio recordings, contemporary translations, imagined character interviews, and more, all while remaining faithful to the original texts. With an account, students can also highlight text, type marginal notes, complete quizzes, and keep all of their progress in one place with the “Notebook” feature.
Procedure
Go to myShakespeare.com.
Select the “Register/Sign in” button. You and your students can register or sign in using Clever, Google, or your email address. A registered account allows teachers to access classroom management features and allows students to access tools like annotation.
After signing in, consider watching the Site Tutorial video if this is your first time using the tool.
Select the name of a play to explore the work using the site’s many features.
Explore the toolbar at the top of the page for additional tools like a scene summary, discussion videos, and a “Glossed Words” feature that helps students understand Shakespearean lingo.
Use the provided buttons beside the text for reading or annotation support as needed.
