CodeAI

CodeAI, formerly Code.org, is a free K–12 platform for building computer science and AI fluency. It offers curriculum, hands-on student projects, and teacher training. No prior experience is needed.

Summary

CodeAI is built for classroom teachers with little to no computer science background. This free platform covers everything from coding basics to newer AI-related topics such as machine learning, generative AI, and computer vision. Each lesson plan comes with slide decks, activity guides, and rubrics. The student-facing resources include an AI Tutor, which is built into select lessons. The AI tutor uses Socratic-style prompts to guide problem solving instead of just giving answers. Teachers can also view student interactions for oversight.

CodeAI connects with common LMS tools through single sign-on and roster syncing. It also follows COPPA, FERPA, and GDPR guidelines.

Procedure

  1. Go to code.org.

  2. Select "Create Account" or “Sign In” if you already have one.

  3. Browse the Curriculum Catalog by grade band or topic, such as AI Foundations, Coding with AI, or Computer Vision.

  4. Select “Assign” to assign a unit to your class or learn more by selecting “Quick View.“

  5. After students start a course, you can view their progress or time spent, leave feedback, and see a summary report for all students in the class.

Note: Teachers must enable AI Tools before students can use them. Visit the CodeAI Help Center for additional support.
