Summary

This activity is ideal for team-building sessions in classrooms, advisory groups, or workshops where students are practicing collaboration and problem-solving skills. By experiencing the difference between working blindly and working toward a goal, students see directly how communication, leadership, and shared vision support success.

Procedure

  1. Prior to the event, purchase 100-piece puzzles featuring uplifting images, such as graduation or career pathways.

  2. Form groups of students, around four per group.

  3. Pass out only the puzzle pieces to each group; withhold the picture of the completed puzzle.

  4. Tell groups to begin putting the puzzle together.

  5. After three minutes, pause and discuss progress. Ask students what would help them complete the puzzle faster.

  6. Pass out the picture of the puzzle and give students three more minutes.

  7. When groups are finished, use the attached reflection questions to lead a discussion.
